Is Covid 19 Vaccine Feasible?
Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is a highly contagious disease which started back in 2019 and spread all over the world and is still spreading very easily. This international crisis has affected our lives, health, economy and social relations. It is reported that 2,790,905 people have died because of the pandemic worldwide up till now as of March 2021.
The spread of the disease is viral. Most governments put strict restrictions on their populations by locking them down and forcing social distancing and wearing masks along with other health precautions.
Covid-19 Vaccination
The previous procedures helped just slow down the spread of the disease not stop it. Scientists have worked on developing vaccines to end the pandemic by addressing the immunity system. So far, a group of vaccines have been approved and authorized to be used by the public. Some of the vaccines were authorized for emergency use, others for full use. The elderly, pregnant women, people with weak immune systems and healthcare workers have the priority to take the vaccine as they are at high risk.
Is the vaccine feasible?
About sixteen vaccines are now authorized around the world. Among the vaccine options, there is Pfizer which proved to be 95% effective. Another option is Moderna which is 94% effective, so they are similar equivalents. Johnson & Johnson vaccine proved to be 66% effective compared with 81% efficiency of Astrazeneca vaccine. Moderna, Pfizer and Astrazeneca vaccines require two shots, whereas Johnson & Johnson present a single- dose vaccine.
Questioning whether coronavirus vaccine is feasible or not is a trending topic. But, why did people question its effectiveness in the short and long term? First, a few side effects were noticed on people after getting vaccinated. Vaccinated individuals got swelling and redness in the arm, tiredness, fever, nausea, rash, chills and headaches which are similar symptoms of Covid-19. But doctors say it is normal and not serious and it is a good sign that your immune system is working properly.
Other vaccinated people were allergic to the vaccine and they suffered from anaphylaxis, but this was rare. This is a case of severe allergy or reaction after you eat something you are allergic to or after getting the vaccine. It could be a serious problem and many people were hospitalized. Again, doctors say all vaccinated people should be monitored for some time after the shot to ensure they are not allergic.
A few deaths were reported after getting the vaccine, but no study proved that it is specifically because of the vaccine. The deaths may have resulted from other health conditions the patients already had like low blood platelet count or diabetes. Very few cases of blood clots have also been reported; one of them ended in death. Lately, a study concluded that the vaccine is not linked to blood clots and that it is safe, while in some countries they still relate them to each other.
But what if we do not develop any side effects after we get vaccinated? Is it a bad sign which means our immune system is not responding? Actually, no. Not all vaccine recipients’ bodies necessarily respond in the same way due to many factors like stress and fatigue. Also, it is more common for side effects to appear after the second dose of the vaccine.
